I saw Ima Nema last night in Brooklyn. It was amazing, a real treat. The music haunted my dreams all last night. Click for a clip.
(from IMDB site) A film, shot over 5 days on the current state of Bulgarian folk music. IMA NEMA attempts to convey the vibrancy of the long, storied, Bulgarian folk traditions, and the curious place those traditions find themselves in: no longer provided their real life contexts, threatened by an increasingly more urban, modern populace, yet still alive and performed in revivalist groups and festivals, and inherently respected by the proud Bulgarian people.
